The Rockport-Fulton Pirate football team is headed to their last district game this Friday night. The catch? It’s the rivalry game that dates back for over a decade. Not only that but they are also fighting for a possible district championship title. Safe to bet this game will be one to talk about and an event to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Throughout all the anticipation, some players and coaches had some things to talk about leading up to the big day.
“ I am optimistic because our team has great value,” Jackson Grubert, a player for the team, said.
While the players may feel ready, it’s the coaches thoughts that really give you insight. Coach Delgado had his personal feelings about the players’ preparation.
“ Yes, we are prepared for this Friday. We have a game plan and the kids are willing to learn and execute.”
As well as Coach Delgado, Coach Black had similar feelings.
“ Yes we are prepared. The bye week helped prepare extra for the important game. Our guys are definitely ready”
Because the boys are facing a rival school, there are friends and frenemies. Jackson Grubert and Levi Dias have both.
“ I’m excited to play Zack Busack. He used to play with us and we are friends.” Jackson stated.
“ I’m excited to face the linebackers because they are good.” Levi said.
As exciting as it is for kids to play with each other, no matter if they are friends or not. The coaches are looking at some kids specifically.
“ I’m looking at the quarterback (Hanson) for sure.” Coach Delgado added.
So with this season coming to end, the most important thing through it all is the motivation. Every player and coach has a reason for pushing through all season. Jackson is paying it forward for his seniors and Levi has the same intentions.
“ I’m playing for the seniors. It’s their last home district game and I just want to make them proud.” Jackson commented.
And while the players are playing with good motivation, their commitment isn’t going unnoticed. Coach Delgado and Black are both openly proud of their players and the season they’ve had no matter the outcome of this game.
“ Yes, I’m proud of this season. Compared to last season especially, its not the same team but its the same town.” Delgado stated.
“ I’m very proud. They got better every week. They handled adversity and just got stronger.”
