Royce Havens, a junior at RFHS, will be moving onto state in Cross Country for the second year in a row. Royce ran a 17:34 at the regional meet, and will be competing at state November first.
Royce’s feelings about making state may be unexpected. When asked, all he could offer was humility.
“ I don’t know. It feels great to go back” Royce expressed.
Now to make it to state is a big task and you need great times to move on. Luckily, Royce’s 17:34 time was good enough to get him through, but he feels differently.
“ I definitely could’ve done better,” Royce said, assuredly.
With all the pressure for the season, Royce expressed what he had learned going through this new season.
“ Not everything will go my way,” Royce explained.
Hopefully, things will go his way. Although what will help him through his journey of state, is his motivator.
“ My motivation is so I don’t have to listen to all the negativity in my brain”
Only being a junior, he still has another year to shine. However, the question of continuing after high school is on a vast majority of people’s minds, and although no commitment has been made, he has some places in mind.
“ Yes, I do plan to continue after high school. I would like the University of Houston or Sam Houston.”
While Royce has been doing this his whole high school career, Royce has one person he owes it all to.
“ I’d like to shout out to my mom, she teaches me not to give up on myself.”
