Pirate tennis lost to the Calallen Wild Cats this past Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals. Despite this loss, the team’s outlook continues to remain positive.
The Pirate’s notable fall season run is made more impressive when paired with the fact that it’s been nine years since the last time varsity team tennis has made it to the third round of playoffs as regional qualifiers. This has caused the team to become optimistic about what the future of Pirate tennis has in store. Many of the players believe this is the start of a new era of tennis and the team will only get stronger from here on out. “I think the future of R.F. Tennis is really bright. I think our chances of getting further in playoffs next year is strong, and I can’t wait to do anything to help the team achieve greatness. Next year is our year! Go Pirates!” Ty Blankenship, sophomore, said.
Samuel Scriven, head coach, has expressed his pride in the team and all the hard work that was put into the fall season. “It has been nine years since the team has been this far and I am proud to be a part of that history with you all! […] Your hard work and dedication to the sport that often goes unnoticed for many people is admirable and I applaud you all for pushing yourself in each match, ” Coach Scriven said. Scriven shares a similar view as his players and is looking forward to seeing how the spring season plays out, “I am excited for our spring season and excited to see how well we all do in the spring. Now we take the time to prepare ourselves for spring!”
