This year the Rockport Fulton High School Theatre Department’s fall musical is Little Shop of Horrors, and they are extremely excited to present it to fellow students and community members. Since August, the cast has worked on blocking scenes, memorizing lines, and improving acting skills with every rehearsal.
The director, Mr. Luttman, uses the musical as a hands-on learning experience for his tech theatre classes. Students partake in building and painting set pieces such as platforms and countertops, all contributing to the final set where the musical will take place. This show includes four plant puppets that must be manned by “techies,” what the cast calls Stage Technicians who take care of all of the work backstage and in the booth. The biggest puppet is around nine feet tall and plays a crucial part in progressing the story.
Once the fall musical ends, One Act Play (OAP) contest begins in the spring. Around two weeks after the musical ends, students interested in auditioning for OAP prepare 1-2 monologues that are typically three minutes long to preform for Mr. Luttman and Miss. Kuertz, the directors, along with whoever else is auditioning that day.
Come out and support the Theatre Department by watching their showings, a message sent from the actors, actresses, and tech who have been working hard to put together an amazing show. The shows are November 19-24 in the Martha Luigi Auditorium. More information is provided on the flyer and rfisd.org where you can also find ticket sales.
