Thanks to the generosity of the RFISD Education Foundation, budding writers at RFHS are building a new foundation of school pride. The Anchor is the new student newspaper and will be comprised primarily of student-written pieces. It will be published online during the fall semester with hopes of getting a hard copy(ies) printed in the spring. Because this is all new to the students, online articles may be two to three weeks between publishing. Both the students (and the adviser) are learning new things, including how to navigate the new technology.
The news site will be written with the student body in mind and will cover RFHS as a whole. In doing so, The Anchor hopes to partner with other organizations/clubs to feature the work and talent of our students and teachers. One of the things that is of most interest to The Anchor staff is the school podcast that will be debuting soon. The staff looks forward to not only sharing those podcasts with the community and public, but collaborating with them as well as creating their own. The staff also hopes to work closely with Mrs. Bowden and her photographers so that the talent of those students can be showcased as well. And, finally, The Anchor staff is looking forward to the art program helping design our logo.
The staff asks that everyone be patient with their new endeavor while they learn as they go. Journalistic writing is significantly different than the writing they’ve been taught in their English classes over the years, so they have to un-train parts of their brains during 7th period everyday.
