It’s easy to forget that our teachers and school administrators have lives beyond the walls of our schools. Take Mrs. Brock, one of RFHS’s respected teachers, for instance. Before she ever set foot in the halls of RFHS, Mrs. Brock had already experienced what felt like nine lives. She has built friendships, cherished family moments, pursued hobbies, and developed passions that extend far beyond the realm of school policies and student schedules. Understanding these aspects reminds us that the educators we see every day are more than just their titles, but real people.
When asked about certain hobbies Brock had pursued growing up she responded with an answer that had me shocked. “I was a competitive twirler.” she said. As of now growing into her older ages she values reading as one of her favorite hobbies, the genres she enjoys most are crime and murder fiction. “ I’m nerdy enough to think that reading is fun.” she said.
Going back to her roots is one way Brock likes to wind down after such a stressful school year. Spending time with family is how she lets it all out. “Since I live so far away from my family now, my favorite thing to do is go home and spend time with them,” she said. She values genuine connection in all of her relationships. “It’s about quality not quantity,” she said.
