UIL is a major Texas organization that supports students in competing in academics and extracurricular activities. It provides students with an opportunity to showcase their abilities in different subjects, promoting working together and critical thinking. A team of committed educators at Rockport Fulton High School is preparing students for UIL competitions.
Mr. Starnes is coaching students in Reading, Writing, and Spelling. He stresses the significance of understanding and communication. His strategy involves using captivating lessons to cultivate students’ passion for language, all while honing their spelling and writing skills.
Mr Sanchez, who has a strong love for literature, leads the Literary Criticism team. He helps coaching students examine texts, investigate themes, and talk about Literary devices. His students are taught to showcase their observations in a clear and convincing manner.
Mrs. Brock oversees a wide variety of UIL, such as LD Debate, Persuasive Speaking, Headline Writing, Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, News Writing, and Copy Editing. She emphasizes the significance of effective communication and convincing argumentation. Her students are coached by being shown how to properly structure an article and to look for the correct things to annotate and move around in certain texts.
Mr Wilshire is the preferred teacher for Math, Calculator, Number Sense, and Computer Science. He presents students with challenges that require critical thinking skills and fast problem solving skills. He incorporates engaging activities into his coaching to make math and computer skills more enjoyable for those who participate in UIL.
Mr. Luttman’s main interests are in Poetry and Prize Speaking for UIL. He demonstrates to students the effective way to present their poems, aiding them in engaging with their audience. His teachings focus on utilizing emotion and voice to bring poetry to life.
Ms. Wedel gets her students ready for UIL in Social Studies and Current Events. She engages in conversations about past and present-day topics with them, aiding their comprehension of the world and development as knowledgeable citizens.
Mr. Francis is in charge of the Robotics and Science teams. He motivates students to use their creativity and critical thinking skills in creating and coding robots. His tutoring aids in providing practicing training in STEM disciplines for students.
