Buckle up for Read Across America Week. National Read Across America Day was launched in 1988 by the National Education Association and is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The library is going to have an array of ways to celebrate starting on Feb. 26.
Like any of our week-long celebrations, there’s going to be dress up days. Wear bright clothes on Monday and brighten up your world with reading. Reading can take you anywhere, so wear a shirt from somewhere else on Tuesday. Wear a crazy hat for hats off to reading on Wednesday. Get caught reading on Thursday and wear fishing or camouflage clothing. Finally, dress up as your favorite book character for Friday. During this week there will also be guest readers with a prepared read-a-loud and/or activities.
To top it all off, there will be a masked reader. Teachers will be filmed while reading anonymously and the reveal will be on Friday. Students can turn in a game card with their guesses for prizes in the library. The library will also have an open mic reading and poetry slam.
